Hyetal – Phoenix
David Corney, the man behind Hyetal, is playing live at the Off Centre Festival tonight at Melkweg here in Amsterdam. Phoenix, full off lush builds and laserbeam synth breakdowns, first got released as a 12” on UK’s Orca Recordings and made it on Hyetal’s first album Broadcast released on Black Acre Records. The album is really good too. Also, check out his XLR8R Podcast from late 2010. If you like this, make sure you check him out tonight if you’re around.

Anette Party feat. Anita Coke – Moreno
Jamie XX, who is also playing tonight at the Off Centre Festival, played this track in his BBC’s Essential Mix lately. Released on Liebe*Detail (of which one of their releases got featured here before) in April this year, Moreno is inspired by some of the classic vibes from back in the day and with that bassline and those pitched down vocals it turns into something special. No wonder this track is a killer as Anette Party - real name Richard For Rieger - is the label honcho of Pasta Musik and co-founder of Munich based club Rote Sonne, so he knows the deal.

Sinjin Hawke - I'm On One
This bootleg/remix of DJ Khaled's I'm On One luckily doesn't feature the verses of Drake, Rick Ross and Lil' Wayne. It shows the potential of the instrumental adding a few tricks here and there. Canadian mr. Hawke is releasing an EP on Belgian label Pelican Fly. Be sure to look out for that one as his productions on his Soundcloud sound pretty good too.

XXXY - Kerpow
To stay on the same level let's have a llisten to XXXY. The format of the London based producer: beat A and/or beat C + vocal hook + synths = track. Well, it def sounds good! If you like Kerpow maybe you need to take a look at Adult Swim's Unclassified because there you can grab this one for free amongst others.

Medlar - Terrell
Ofcourse the trackname is a reference to Tammi Terrell's recording of the 1966 recording of Stevie Wonder's All I Do which Medlar samples from. Medlar released his track around june on Wolf Music which are bringing out loads of good stuff full of "house, disco and soul" as they say themselves and they're def right! Check out the podcast's of Wolf Music for DJ sets full of that good stuff. And if you don't dig Medlar's Terrell (which I doubt) maybe the dub version from Bicep is something for you which is out there somewhere as a freebie.

Laidback Luke - Aha
Before the 'thrilla form manilla' started making his huge commercial bombs he made tracks like the one posted below. Released in 1995 on Touché this is a little gem. Touché had releases by big shots such as Carl Craig aka Paperclip People which is a huge classic and Booka Shade. The founders of Touché were Dutch producers which released their own tracks under a lot of different aliases with different musical partners too such as Dobre & Jamez, 51 Days, classic René et Gaston, Jark Prongo and more commercial Chocolate Puma among many many others.

Booker T & The MG's - Green Onions
Essentially intented as a b-side for Hammond organ blues-track Behave Yourself and 'accidentely' recorded while waiting for an artist to show up for a session, Green Onions is standing out by far. It probably is their biggest hit. Booker T and his MG's (Memphis Group) were the house band of Stax Records and recorded with all the Stax artists like Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave and Bill Withers for example. The band was unique, not only for recording instrumental tracks for their own band but moretheless because the bandmembers where of different races, very unusual for that time. Check them out playing Green Onions as well playing for different artists:

Otis Redding - Try a Little Tenderness
From Booker T & The MG's it feels natural to skip to one of the artists which they backed up while performing; Otis Redding. Most people will know Redding from his biggest hit (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay with that whistle that keeps sticking in your head for a day or 3. Other well knowned records by Otis Redding are his Rolling Stones cover of Satisfaction and his record Respect - later an enormous hit for Aretha Franklin. Originally not written for Otis Redding, his version of Try a Little Tenderness is most popular though. Redding's version features a slow soulfull opening which builds into a frantic singing and feet stomping by the man himself.

James Pants - Thin Moon
Of his Seven Seals album from 2009 comes Thin Moon. The track also got released as a 7" inch on Stones Throw Records where legendary beatmaker J. Dilla and white-boy-soul-sensation Mayer Hawthorne for example released their stuff too. There must be a lot of money in this videoclip.

Caribou - Odessa
Released on City Slang Records, Caribou's album Swim features tracks that are not that straightforward and instrumental as his tracks on previous album Andorra, but more.. uhm, actual songs. Caribou, real name Daniel Snaith, usually performs his tracks with his band. For now, let's enjoy album opener Odessa with chicken sounds.

Rustie - Ultra Thizz
The new album from Russell Whyte aka Rustie, Glass Swords, just leaked on the interwebs. The official release is due on October 10th on Warp Records which you may know from artists like Flying Lotus, Bibio and Aphex Twin. You can listen to some of Rustie's tracks here or check out Ultra Thizz below.

FCL - Let's Go
FCL consists of San Soda and We Play House Recordings' label boss Red D. This oldschool sounding house track with a small gospel feel to it comes from early 2010 and, ofcourse, released on that same We Play House Recordings. Def check the track below but also make sure you listen to this little podcast FCL did.

Joy Orbison & Boddika - Swims
To stay in the mood of last night's Rush Hour party over at Trouw (read the previous post) take a listen to this superb track by 2 DJ's and producers from the UK: Joy Orbison and Boddika which got played at the end of the night. Rumours are that a release of Swims on Addison Groove's Swamp81 is almost certain.

FaltyDL -To New York
A bit more chilled out, this track comes from Drew Lustman also knowned by his beatmaker moniker FaltyDL To New York comes from the 2009 album Love Is a Liability which got released on Planet Mu which have been releasing good music for a while now. Mr. DL has had top-flight releases on Ramp and the well known Rush Hour from Amsterdam, not to mention remixes for Mount Kimbie and The xx.

KiNK – Bitter Sweet
After hearing from KiNK some years ago in the form of (then unreleased) killer track Gipsy, apparently known as The Big Payback as well, I was hooked. Almost everything with this man’s name on it is pure gold. Producing oldschool house with hints of techno and acid KiNK is releasing good stuff lately on the bigger labels such as Ovum, Rush Hour and Burek with tracks as E79, Metropole (together with his buddy Neville Watson) and Leko. KiNK will be playing in industrial Amsterdam based club Trouw tonight together with Skudge which are being highlighted underneath. If you decide to go there tonight to watch this Romanian house freak and want to get in the dancing mood, listen to Bitter Sweet which samples Ce Ce Rogers’ classic Someday. If you’re not going, listen to it anyway.

Skudge – Melodrama
Supporting KiNK tonight in Trouw, Swedish DJ/producer-tagteam Skudge is giving act de presence too. Although these two dudes only teamed up in summer 2009 they have been making a name by producing and playing out warehouse-styled, acid-like house which they mainly release on their own label Skudge Records. They are planning to release music from other artists as well later this year so if you have any stuff that you think fits their label, drop them a line. Check out their August favorites at Clone if you wanna learn more about where the inspiration for their music comes from. Maybe they will be jamming like this tonight? For now get hyped on this.

Anonym - Trust Me
As the person behind the ultra mysterious moniker Anonym wants us to believe he - or she - lives in Detroit, Michigan. Although Anonym is very anonymous he (if you can tell from his profile picture) makes damn good music. He has several superb releases on the Berlin based record label Sushitech. His edit of RicardoVillalobos' classic is very different to say the least and he also conspires with Duijn & Douglas from Amsterdam. The track below is called Trust Me and samples Trust In Me from Larry J. Reynolds.

Jimmy Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower
And now, for something completely different - Jimmy Hendrix. The original version is, ofcourse, from Bob Dylan but Hendrix converted this into "a tumultous four-part solo that transformed Dylan's concise foreboding into an electric hurricane" to quote music mag Rolling Stone. Hendrix was already big when he played the world famous Woodstock Festival. But maybe this made him even more famous.

Toro Y Moi - Freak Love
Because it's getting colder over here in Amsterdam you might wanna recall those breezy summer afternoons with music by the courtesy of Chaz Bundick or Toro Y Moi as he names himself. While still on school he met Washed Out which has a couple of similarities musically wise. Freak Love is on the first album Causers of This together with a couple of other gems including Talamak, which is the second track in the clip underneath.

Lil Louis - I Called U (The Conversation)
As one of those legends in house music history Lil Louis had a big influence. Not only because of his '80ties megahit French Kiss as his collaborations with other house music pioneers such as Marshall Jefferson and Lil' Louis Vega from Masters At Work. From the same debut album where French Kiss is on, The Mind of Lil Louis, comes I Called U (The Story Continues) - which got sampled here by Cajmere with a little more dancefloor attitude. Below you can get warmed up a little bit with the original.

Theo Parrish - Sweet Sticky
Today we're going deep with a heap of soul. First up is more then 7 minutes of dreaming away. This 1998 track by legendary Theo Parrish resembles what he is still doing in his DJ sets - playing so called Detroit house/techno dancefloor stompers after James Brown-funk and Miles Davis-jazz.

Dollkraut - Loot
Dutch producer Pascal Pinkert also brings the soul with a bit of dust on it. On his blog he is posting everything he's interested in and keeps you updated where he is performing as Dollkraut or his different moniker Le Voyage. Apparently Loot uses samples from this edit of a William DeVaughn track.

Le kick-off, yeay!

From now on you can enjoy 2 tracks, every now and then a DJ set, but most of the time those musical gems from the past and ofcourse, today's treasures. And all that on a daily basis. Expect very basic stuff. Just some info on the track + the track itself. Listening and watching 2 tracks. Everyday. It's simple like that. What a nice motto.
OK let's go
!

Joris Voorn - Revelation
This being the first post it had to be a little euphoric! This track from Rejected labelhoncho Joris Voorn is one of those euphoric tracks. Released as part of the 2007 album From A Deep Place it has never lost it's vibe ever since.

A.B.T. - I Desire You (Anti Sample)
A.B.T. is a shortage for "A Burrell Thang". Named after the twins Rheji and Rhano Burrell who founded this project. On the vinyl release, dating from 1991, one side is for Rheji's tracks, the other side is for Rhano. The 'anti sample' version as posted below is accompanied by the 'sample' version. The vocals makes it a little cheesy though.
