RD76 - They Don't Tell The Truth
Don't know nothing about this artist except that 'RD' stands for RotaryDisco, that the focus lies on doing re-edits, that it is released on Adult Music Entertainment and that this tune is baws! Mr. Rotary sampled The Undisputed Truth for this one.
D.B. - Glory Hole
There's more info on this track; 'D.B.' stands for Daniel Bortz which hails in Germany. Ze German releases nice stuff on Suol and Souvenir for example, which got mentioned on dee blog before. The sample(s) of Glory Hole come from Portishead's Glory Box and the edit got released on Keinerechte, sublabel of Keinemusik, which focusses on edits/bootlegs. They make their own artwork, they print the limited vinyls by themselves and also do take care of the distribution themselves.

DJ Sneak - You Can't Hide From Your Bud
As he got mentioned in the previous post it is more then logical to give the man a proper feature on the blog. Puerto Rican/American Carlos Sosa, which is his real name, delivers the next classic of today. The track dates from 1997 and was released on Derrick Carter's Classic imprint. The track has that irrisistible bassline and vocal hook which Sneak got from Teddy Pendergrass' You Can't Hide From Yourself.
Nice one Teddy!
Thomas Bangalter - What To Do
Mr. Bangalter is best known as a member of the huge Daft Punk. But before his Daft Punk adventure he released one of his Trax On Da Rocks EP's on which What To Do is featured. Remember Stardust with their hit Music Sounds Better With You? That's Bangalter too. He has a notoriety for finding good samples (as did Daft Punk too) but did not get credit for a couple of monster hits including Bob Sinclar's Gym Tonic, Freeloaders' So Much Love To Give and perhaps best example comes from Eric Prydz' Call On Me. Everyone of them the idea of Bangalter.

Kenlou - The Bounce
The Bounce is from 1995 and still grooves! The name 'Kenlou' stands for Kenny Gonzalez and Louie Vega. Those 2 guys are also knowned for their monikers Masters at Work and Nuyorican Soul by which they influenced a lot of later houseproducers.

Armand van Helden - Work Me
Mr. van Helden first produced numerous productions on legendary record label Stricly Rhythm. After those releases he became a frequently asked remixer. He remixed CJ Bolland's Sugar Is Sweeter for example. To prove he could not only remix he came up with Funk Phenomena which became an international hit. This one he did together with DJ Sneak.

Flash & The Pan - Walking In The Rain (Tigerskin Rework)
After writing songs for bands as AC/DC, Australian band Flash & The Pan released Walking In The Rain, featured on their self-titled album, in 1979. The rework comes from Alex Krüger under his Tigerskin alias. One of his other aliasses is Dub Taylor under which he made Clicktrap a year or so a go.

Tensnake – In The End (I Want You To Cry)
Marco Niemerski, the man behind the moniker, got his real breakthrough by his release of summer-vibe-track Coma Cat, released on legendary record label Defected (it first got released on Permanent Vacation though). But In The End (I Want You To Cry), Released on Running Back, is the track when people got to know him a little bit. It's a strange track, as a lot of things released on Runnung Back are, but oh so nice! Wanna find out where Tensnake get's his inspiration from? Check out his Tumblr.
Pepe Bradock – Path Of Most Resistance
Pepe Bradock, real name Julien Auger, from France started playing in several jazz/funk-bands and as a DJ in a couple of hiphop groups. Path Of Most Resistance comes from the Swimsuit Issue 1789 EP (Swimsuit Issue 1789 what the fuck?!), a release on his own Atavisme label. As the name of the EP, the track itself is a bit odd too.

The Doors - The Crystal Ship
The Crystal Ship was on the 1967 debut album called The Doors. There are so many good tracks on that album that was recorded within 6 days. Also on that same record is the mega hit Light My Fire which got covered numurous times. For example by blind singer José Feliciano who also had an enormous hit with his song Feliz Navidad.Richie Havens got world famous for his gig on the Woodstock festival in 1969. Apparantly the hippies over there applauded so long and so loud for him, Mr. Havens couldn't get it over his heart to stop singing and he started to sing a (partly improvised) song called Freedom, which became a world hit later on. On his performance of Wonder Child on the US children's show Sesame's Street you can really hear how beautiful his voice is. Check that out below.

How To Dress Well - Ready For The World
Tom Krell created a beauty with his debut album Love Remains. Most of the tracks sound like they are cheap home-recordings but they catch your attention nevertheless. You can hear the love for nasty sweet lovin' R&B from the 80ties and 90ties on the album but faded out and worn down, as you can hear on Love You Down by Ready For The World. This is were How To Dress Well's strange, sort of half-cover comes from. Maybe the Twin Sister Remix is even more strange.
Samiyam - Bedtime
Out on Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder label this track by Sam Baker, aka Samiyam, is meant as some sort of interlude on his album Sam Baker's Album but stands out on itself. No wonder Samiyam released his album on Brainfeeder as he moved to - Brainfeeder homebase - Los Angeles and forms, together with FlyLo, FlyamSam. The clip below is pretty nice with Pink Panther innit, but I sure love those dunes in this clip. Nice Illmatic-look on the albumcover too.

Fleet Foxes - Blue Ridge Mountains
Dating from 2008 the band's self-titled album still sounds as good as it did then. The cover art of the vinyl has a wonderful painting from Belgian painter Pieter Bruegel de Oude. They've got some really weird but beautiful videoclips made for some of their songs, you can check those out here.
The Tallest Man On Earth - Love Is All
Kristian Matsson, also known as The Tallest Man On Earth, is from Sweden and released his second album The Wild Hunt last year. Expect a rasping voice, beautiful fingerpicking on his guitar and nice lyrics. The slightly slower live version on Jools Holland's show is really nice too.

Beach House - Master of None
This track is used in the new movie The Future by Miranda July which is narrated by a freaking cat! The song from Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally aka Beach House is full of slow-motion beats and hazy keyboard drones. As is their newest album Teen Dream which has been record in a church.
Peggy Lee - Where Or When
This song by Peggy Lee is also in that movie The Future which got mentioned above. Peggy Lee, real name Norma Egstrom, is probably most known for her song Fever which got covered numerous times. Next to singing Peggy Lee was an actrice too. She even won an Oscar!

Joakim - Labyrinth
Coming from his newest album, Nothing Gold, French producer Joakim Bouaziz plays with 80's electro/funk and disco. It goes from Beach Boys, Moroder and Daft Punk The labelboss from Tigersushi says the title from his album comes from the phrase "Nothing Gold Can Stay", a poem by S.E. Hinton.
Daniel Norgren - Mean Old Devil Got On II
Old blues and gospel, garagerock and jazz in one. Daniel Norgren's album Horrifying Death Eating Bloodspider (what a name!) is full of it. This guy from Sweden is almost a one-mand band playing guitar, kazoo, harmonica and rums himself. Man what a voice.

Canned Heat – Going Up The Country
With a whole lotta blues and boogie and the bandmembers naming themselves ‘The Mole’, ‘The Bear’, ‘Blind Owl’ and ‘The Sunflower’ you can’t go wrong. The band was formed in 1965 and played on Woodstock. Going Up The Country is also the soundtrack for the official Woodstock movie and was from the Living The Blues album from 1968. It is a remake of Henry Thomas’ song Bulldoze Blues.

Theophilus London – Life Of A Lover
Only based on his mixtapes, for example his I Want You mixtape where Life Of A Lover is from, Mr. London toured Europe and the rest of the world. Not having made a ‘real’ album yet this dude from the USA let’s all his creativity on the loose. You can check that out on his blog.

Videoband - Lidl
Inspired by the so called French house sound mainly released on labels such as Crydamoure and Roulé this young Dutch kid started producing his own tracks. It started out with more Ed Banger-like tracks as can be heard on his Home Video System EP. Nowadays he's making more techno/house based stuff just like the track below.

James Blake - Not Long Now
It all started with tracks like Air And Lack Thereof and CMYK which featured great sampling skills and def a tad more dubstep-like then the tracks from his self-titled album. More in line with his debut album James Blake's new Enough Thunder EP is out as of today where Not Long Now is coming from.

Jacques Greene - I Like You
There's not too much known of the young Jacques Green, but mystery can be a charming thing. The guy, who is in his early twenties, is from Montreal Quebec and is making some good music lately! Listening to his Allez-Allez mix (scroll down a bit) for the last month or so really made me wonder how a full live show from him would sound like.

Monokle - Luch
A bit more chilled out, but still with a lot of synths this track comes from, Russian, Monokle. Luch comes from their Birds Swirl EP and maybe is the best pick of the it. It is a bit Bibio-like, although Bibio focussed more on folk and later on electronica in a different way. If you like this pay a visit to their Tmblr.Tuesday, October 4, 2011
Mayer Hawthorne - Just Ain't Gonna Work Out
The Mayer has a new album out as of today called How Do You Do. Just Ain't Gonna Work Out got released as a 7" first but made it on his first album, released on Stones Throw Records, A Strange Arrangement. Stones Throw is releasing some good music from the late J. Dilla and from label boss Peanut Butter Wolf himself for example. Mr. Hawthorne is next to singing also DJ-ing under his DJ Haircut moniker. Would love to have that heartshaped vinyl.
Mosca - The Way We Were
Because Mosca had 5000 followers on Twitter he shared his "5000 Followers EP" for free. His release on Numbers is more uptempo and 2-step-like. You might know Numbers from their releases from Deadboy and Taz (Buckfaster). Go here if you wanna check out Mosca's release on Numbers. And go here for his XLR8R Podcast.

Julio Bashmore - Battle For Middle You
Julio Bashmore's, real name Matthew Walker, first release only dates from late 2009. But among DJ's like Joy Orbison, Hyetal (Julio is doing a side project called Velour with him) and L-Vis 1990 for example he's making a name for himself. Especially his Everybody Needs a Theme Tune EP on PMR Records, where the track Battle For Middle You comes from. Check out his Essential Mix! 'People get up/stomp your feet/let's get down'

L-Vis 1990 - Forever You (Dub)
He got mentioned in the post above already. Mr. 1990's EP, with this track on it, was released on the Nightslugs label which L-Vis and Bok Bok are running. The original is full of cheesy vocals so that's why the dub version is featured here. It's a bit mystic with those small fragments of vocal and that killer synth that runs through the whole track.

Sammy Bananas - My Body
What a name, but the track really is bananas! If you're not chilling in the park, having blockparties or seeking some shade to get away from the sun, this will def heat you up even more. The Fool's Gold artist from Brooklyn, NY uses the opening parts of Bump 'N Grind by smooth operator R. Kelly. Nice moustache too Mr. Bananas!
Houses - Soak It Up
A bit more chilled out is Soak it Up from Chicago based duo Houses (they're boyfriend/girlfriend). Released late 2010 on Lefse, the album All Night is a true beauty full of dreaming-away-tracks. Their track Endless Spring - which is featured on the album too - has a nice videoclip shot on Hawaii (where they lived while recording the album) by the duo themselfs.
