Darondo - Didn't I
You don't have to be a crate-digger to appreciate the soul of Darondo. William Pulliam which is his real name shows similarities to the subliminal Al Green. The life story of Darondo remains subject to myth and mystery. His label once reported he'd worked as a pimp. Something Mr. Pulliam now denies. As the talk goes he did four shows in the '70s opening for James Brown, stopped after the last show and drove away in his Rolls Royce. Baws.

Curtis Mayfield - Diamond In The Back
Mayfield might be best known for his 'message music' inspired by the Civil Right Movement which, for example, Marvin Gaye and James Brown sing about too. Curtis Mayfield is regarded as a pioneer of funk music. Supposedly Diamond In The Back is a newer version of William DevVaughn's Be Thankful For What You Got. Honestly it sounds a lot like it. 'Diamond in the back, sunroof top, digging the scene with a gangsta lean woohoo!'.
